Developing a love for learning that goes beyond books is what Strathmore is offering me.
To spice up my book knowledge, I immerse myself in current affairs to better understand the reality on the ground. Secondly, I get to sharpen my interpersonal skills through the tasks that are offered in my studies, for example group projects. Also, my intrapersonal skills are improving as I am learning to challenge myself more than ever before. For example, I enrolled in Spanish classes and tagged my sister along to study with me so we can practice together at home. Away from books, I have been crocheting and I can say I have made my own “scarf couture’’.
Getting my comprehensive experience
My goal is to acquire a degree; however, I am working to ensure that is not the only thing I leave campus with. I am making the most out of my university experience by getting involved in activities that enrich my student life outside the classroom. For example, I have been attending webinar meetings hosted by the university to enlarge my world view. It is in such events that I get opportunities to learn from professionals while I grow my professional networks. Besides, I get to engage with my fellow students on different platforms that help me learn more about them and their interests. Through such engagements, I am learning to build on lifelong friendships virtually.
In these difficult times, I would like to encourage everyone to focus on their mental health. Do not forget to reach out if you are struggling; our support systems are the most important thing in the world. Although it might be difficult studying at home, use the available resources to interact with your classmates so that you can push each other to excel. Be more present in your life and be a positive vibe in other people’s lives. I believe some of the ways we can live a more meaningful life is to help others as the saying goes, “Helping one person might not change the world, but it could change the world for one person.” Whose world are you changing today?
