Valentine’s 2021: #LoveIsAction

“Valentine’s is coming, where is your…?” This is a line of song famous for its use on social media to welcome Valentine’s Day, held annually on 14th February. Its application has escalated creation of humorous memes, parodies, quotes and other forms of creative pieces. The Strathmore Student Council welcomed Valentine’s Week by organizing some activities for the Stratizens

Among these activities was Valentine’s Instagram Live, an online blind dating session, a single day speed dating session, gifting Strathmore University’s support staff (catering, security, housekeeping, and administrators), a dinner and a subsidized movie night at IMAX for the Stratizens

This year’s Valentine’s Week came as an opportunity for the Student Council to bridge the gap between students and the University staff. “We accomplished this by encouraging Stratizens to contribute money that goes into purchasing roses later gifted to the University support staff,” says Don Kamonya, President of the Student Council. “We believe that by gifting the University staff, the student body appreciates the staff, thus improving the staff-student interaction,” he adds.

Sumaiya Abdikadir, the Public Relations Executive of the Student Council, says “We had numerous activities lined up to give the Stratizens a chance to interact and socialize among themselves on different platforms hence relieving them off the mental strain that had resulted from the effects of the pandemic and virtual classes.”

In a bid to make the Strathmore experience for the Stratizens more amazing, the Student Council ensured that they supported student run businesses. Student entrepreneurs had the opportunity to sell Valentine’s merchandise. “The whole Valentine’s Week has been a roller coaster of emotions; there was fun, amusement, entertainment, and much energy,” says Sumaiya, a Bachelor of Arts in International Studies student.
